Citroën Berlingo Coupé de Plage by Bertone
Car of the Day #237: 1996 Citroën Berlingo Coupé de Plage by Bertone – Sandy Cracks
I'm allowed an off day, right?
Like when you let me get away with posting a Berlingo-based Bertone beach buggy. The Berlingo is a late-'90s Citroën van, by the way.
Introduced at the 1996 Paris Motor Show, the Berlingo Coupé de Plage is weird only if this is your first foray into French concept cars from the 1990s.
Is this not a better version of the oh, I don't know…the Pontiac Stinger? Is this not every other lifestyle-focused SEMA concept car from the past 10 years?
(Oh, and brace yourself for many, many photos of this beachy beastie…)
Is the Coupé de Plage not now a little boring? Why stuff a tiny not-van with Jetskis or the equipment for board sports, when the ‘alpha’ males are making it look easy by toy haulering their RZRs and ’skis with F-250s?
"You want some scuba?" the short king instructor asks.
Jokes aside, think of the Coupé de Plage, aka “beach coupe” as a Sea-Doo with four wheels and a rear-facing hammock—a compelling idea for those of us with beaches nearby.
